New Hampshire's Ride the Wilds

Now this is a breath of fresh air amidst all the news about trail closures. New Hampshire just had the grand opening of Ride the Wilds--a project that connected over 1,000 miles of trails and towns to allow ATVs to travel the entire route without trailering and to enter towns for lodging, food, and ...

Meeting horses on the trail

Just a reminder for us all...and perhaps some of us don't know this. Some horses don't know what a helmeted rider on a noisy motorcycle is. Therefore they get scared, which can be a dangerous situation for the rider. If you come upon a horseback rider, shut off your engine, talk, and remove your hel...

Back from riding CO singletrack

8 of us rented a nice cabin in the Taylor Park, CO area and rode miles of excellent singletrack. (My brother, Kyle, and me along with 6 folks from the St. Louis area.) We came home with hundreds of photos and hours of video---around 200GB of media! So lots of video compilations to be produced over t...

Re: KTM ADV Rider Rally - Sept. 13th 14th 15th

Welcome to RideForum, piratekiller! You've got a few 990 ADV riders here on RideForum for sure. Kendall is right , though, that you'll find a much larger audience on AdvRider for this sort of thing. Here is a thread that discusses this KTM rally and even some guys from Iowa looking for riders to joi...

Excellent point, Eddie. If only it was easier to give more money to the government.

Re: Colorado OHV permit

It is interesting / frustrating that the FS employees selling the permits don't even know. However, my logic says when you are out riding maintained, Forest Service signed singletrack, the fact you have a road title and license plate don't mean anything while on that trail. The permit is payment to ...

Don't feel bad, Randy. Colorado is overrated. Why ride the mountains when you can run KS gravel?

Man, it looks like the 3 of you had an amazing adventure! That is some TECHNICAL hiking! More like scrambling. I need to post up some photos & videos of my CO adventure (same week as Safiri's).

Re: Any interest in a Pomme De Terre ride 8/9,10,11?

Ooh...sounds very nice...especially if the weather stays cool. I probably can't make this one with other things in my schedule, but will keep this on my radar for sure.

Didn't you sell your camping trailer? So are you tenting it?

Re: swapping tires & home balancing

If you are going to spend a day at 50+ mph, balance the tires, really helps cuts down on fatigue. Some of us have balls. The rest of you can balance your wheels and change your panties. You think those guys riding hard-tail cruisers with ape hangers and a 280+ lb woman on the back balance their whe...

Re: Very Boring Rally-Duluth, MN

670 interstate miles from my house to Duluth, and I sure as heck don't want to pound 1,300 roundtrip interstate miles on my F800GS, so the "adventure route" is more miles than that. I don't mind the miles, but miles = time. Those miles mean about 4 days just to commute up there and back plus another...

Re: swapping tires & home balancing

For what it's worth ($0.00), I've never bothered to balance a motorcycle wheel. Maybe if I'd ever owned a high-performance, high-speed type of motorcycle I would care. But for my sub 70MPH and mostly off-pavement riding, balancing is worthless. 10 feet of gravel or dirt and you've got rocks stuck in...

Jassomian, why does your bike look 10 feet long in this photo? I really like this shot!

Re: Time for Wabaunsee Co. again... July 20/21?

Also not a good route for big bikes, unless we were planning to trundle along at 5 mph. I'd be in, but need some clarification on what you mean by this. I would be on my 990, so if there would be work-arounds in any areas that might be not big bike-friendly I'd still be interested. Kendall, I don't...

Mac, at the 2:30 minute mark of the 2nd video, is that a woman, standing all buy herself, next to the road, in the middle of nowhere??? -Harv It definitely is, and they wave to each other. So do you stop and say "hi" or assume that if someone is walking out there they might be looking to get away f...

Re: Fall TARkansas ride

To those of us on the TARKC fall adventure: Remember how cold, wet, and muddy we were rolling into our motel in Ozark. I don't know about you guys, but if I faced setting up a tent and no facilities at the end of that day, I'd have been slightly miserable. It's easy to have this peaceful, relaxing v...
